10:50 PM Update

Grace was extabated at 9:00 pm. We have been told by all the nurses that she is a fighter in all aspects. She was fighting the breathing tube so hard, shaking her head back and forth and holding her breath, they decided to try her on her own. She had some difficulty at first with secretions and a paralyzed vocal cord from the intubation, but they placed her on 10 liters of oxygen through a high flow nasal canula and her blood gases seem to be gradually improving. Needless to say, she is in soft restraints in order to keep her from pulling out anything (chest tubes, etc.). The plan/goal is to try and wean the oxygen down through the night and have her completely breathing on her own and possible move to the step-down unit by tomorrow. We won't have much of an update/game plan until around 10 am after rounds tomorrow but will keep you posted.

Laura,
I just got on here and saw where your precious baby had surery today. I am praying for you and your family. I know Grace has lived up to her name once again. God gives us the lives we have because he knows we can handle it. I know it's hard to think sometimes how we will make it one more day, Just one more doctors appointment, more tests, ect. But some how God's grace and the faith you have in him brings you through. My thoughts and Prayers are with you. Keep us posted.
Love you

Hi, I heard about Grace through Amanda Handley. I am following her progress, and praying that the post-op course is uneventful. Good to hear she tolerated the extubation. all of our heart kiddos have such a fighting spirit in them, don't they?
